The Diffley Partnership offers a full range of social and market research services, giving clients the high quality and robust research needed to make important decisions; form large-scale surveys to focus group discussions about local issues.

We bring research to life and make sure it can lead to genuine change. We also cut through complex and thorny issues to help understand where the public stands on a wide range of issues, providing thoughtful analysis.

Since the company was founded in 2017 by Mark Diffley, former Director of Ipsos MORI Scotland, we have completed nearly 200 research and consultancy projects for a range of public, private and third sector organisations in Scotland and beyond.

You will join our growing team of talented and passionate researchers and bring your own set of skills to provide valuable insight to our projects which will in turn inform the decision-making of our clients.

The Role

We are seeking a new Research Manager to join our team, an individual with a proven track record in quantitative and qualitative research delivery, strong client focus and a proven project manager.

This is a new position which sits between our strong team of researchers and our Head of Research, a crucial role with a focus on ensuring that we continue to deliver high quality research and insight to clients.

You will manage a variety of research studies for diverse range of clients from across the public, private and third sectors. We are currently working at home due to Covid-19 restrictions though our intention is to return to our office in the West End of Edinburgh in due course. Whether working at home or in an office we provide a supportive, friendly and professional environment.

Key Responsibilities include:

  • Manging quantitative and qualitative research studies,
  • Managing client relationships,
  • Writing of study reports and proposals for new work,
  • Developing new research ideas/products,
  • Managing internal and external communications,
  • Assisting in managing research team,
  • Communicating with clients and others, including through written reports and presentations,
  • Undertaking data and statistical analysis in quantitative and qualitative studies,
  • Undertaking work on data visualisation and presenting data in clear, user-friendly and understandable formats.

About you

  • Track record in delivering research studies,
  • Skilled in communicating and working with clients, including at a senior level
  • Strong reasoning and written communication skills, honed through experience of working with large amounts of data and compiling concise, accurate and well-informed reports,
  • Excellent problem-solving skills,
  • Highly analytical and numerate,
  • Experience in the use of statistical and quantitative methods and a variety of qualitative methods to analyse a wide variety of data sources,
  • Have practical experience of using SPSS or similar statistical software packages, and advanced user of MS Excel,
  • Have practical experience of using qualitative analysis packages such as QDA Miner,
  • Highly motivated to develop yourself, the research team and the organisation as a whole,
  • Strong interpersonal skills demonstrated through interaction with a variety of stakeholders at different levels,
  • Tenacious and logical approach to information gathering and analysis
  • Be able to work to tight deadlines
  • Be able to work effectively in a team but likewise be proactive and able to work on own initiative.
